Making a difference in anything is a big task, whether it is cleaning up your local park or changing your own diet. Everything has its own challenges that you have to hurdle over and you cannot look back. One of the hardest things to make a difference in is the way that people think and their beliefs. But that is exactly the challenge that we have chosen to undertake as a class because someone has to do it. We have chosen to try to make people of all types question the stereotypes that they so easily conform to. We do this by playing with irony of imagery and words. Setting the image against the word where it would contradict each other.
For me this project focused on the posters that we are putting up around the halls. I had to utilize my experience with Photoshop to edit and put together some of the images that are making up some of our advertising campaign. And once we set up a format that the advertisements were going to be set up with, my job became a lot easier and it all just became a routine for each photo.
I was actively involved with the editing role of the photos. I would get the direct feedback from everyone else and I would do whatever they asked and make sure that we got a general consensus from the class. I offered a big role in the decision making process because I knew firsthand what every edit would do to the photos and I could imagine what everything would look like after each effect and I can accurately predict what the advertisements will turn out to look like when they are done.
One of the things that I liked so much about this assignment was that it was so different from anything else you will do in school. It was different than anything else I have done in my twelve years of public school. This project actually meant something and it may or may not have an impact on the general public. That is something that I really like doing and I am getting a lot of experience in something that I love doing while I am helping my peers in the school.
The group of students that we have worked together really well, we were not aggressive toward each other and we respected the opinion and views of each and every other person. If one person had an idea we would all listen through to the end. And without harsh criticism we would either advice on their view or agree and we would all work on making the final result of our work as good as we possibly can. We were a group of intelligent and respectful people with strong views and a central goal to reach.
I learned that the media industry must go through a lot of work to get what they want out to the public. We were only working on targeting a few 600 students and we had to go through a lot of work. Now if you make the frame out to millions of people that makes the task so much harder cause then you don’t know anyone that you are trying to target with your advertisements.
